(Barnstable, MA) The Cape and Islands United
Way and Cape Cod Broadcasting Media are empowering Cape and Islands residents to “Give Where U Live” this season with their holiday campaign. Radio personalities on Ocean 104.7 and Cape Classical WFCC 107.5 are encouraging locals to give back in three easy ways: Give A Helping Hand – help a Cape Cod family with a specific need. Give Goods — search the United Way’s one-stop webpage of holiday drives to find a local toy, food or clothing drive. Or, Give Time – pitch in to help a local nonprofit by finding an opportunity posted through the United Way’s volunteer matching service – Cape Cod Volunteers. All of the giving opportunities for Give Where U Live can be found online at www.uwcapecod.org/givewhereulive or at www.capecod.com.
Together, the board and staff of the United Way, and Cape Cod Broadcasting Media chose to kick-off the campaign by participating in a local project of their own – delivering warm boots, coats, hats, and gloves to the families currently residing at the Cape Cod Shelter. Now, they invite local individuals, families, and businesses in the community to join in and “Give Where U Live” however they choose.
“Giving comes in all different forms”, says CEO Barbara Milligan. “When we merged with Cape Cod Volunteers last year, we knew that it was the perfect fit – giving and volunteering go hand-in-hand. This year our message, ‘Give Where U Live’ is a call to Cape and Islands residents to please give locally– however they choose,” explains Milligan.
The “Give Where U Live” campaign brings giving opportunities – whether it is cash, goods, or time – altogether in one easy website. “Give A Helping Hand” by donating to directly help a local family – whether its rent to stay in their home this holiday season, braces that will enable a young disabled child to walk, or assistance for an elderly veteran. “Give Goods” by donating clothing to a local shelter, canned goods to a food pantry, or even blood to the hospital. A one-stop webpage of local holiday drives is available and can be searched by town. For those who want to donate their time and skills – they can “Give Time” by volunteering. From one-time opportunities, such as holiday food distribution, to longer term volunteer needs, such as visiting the elderly – hundreds of local volunteer positions, from more than 100 nonprofit organizations, are currently posted.
“When you “Give Where U Live,’ Milligan added, “you make the Cape and Islands a better place. Giving back, in any way, really does make a difference. AND — it makes you feel good!”
