Current opportunities to volunteer with the Cape and Islands United Way include:
The Cape and Islands United Way is looking for an administrative volunteer to provide support for our small staff that is trying to accomplish great things for this community!
A volunteer is needed 2 days a week to help staff the office, answer the telephone, and attend to clerical and computer tasks. Hours are flexible and will depend on seasonal workload, but we would propose 3 to 4 hours each day. Tasks will include clerical support of our Community Impact Grant Program and Micro Grant Program (scanning, filing, tracking, monitoring); special event support (finalizing event details, name tags, logistics, invitations and the like); and general administrative support.
Our vision is a community where children succeed, residents are healthy, families are financially stable, and there is safe and affordable housing for all. We need great volunteers to make that possible! This would be an ongoing opportunity at our Centerville office, 1600 Falmouth Road (next to The 99 Restaurant). Our office is on the second floor, so negotiating stairs are a must.
We’ll be interviewing candidates to make sure this is a good fit for you and for us – we appreciate your consideration!
211 is the state’s 24/7 telephone help hotline, managed by the United Way.
The Cape and Islands United Way seeks a volunteer for ongoing administrative and research support to maximize the the reach of 211 on the Cape and Islands.
The problem? The 211 center is located in Framingham. If a mom who lives on Cape Cod calls for help, she is provided with the information as it appears in the 211 database. Which may not be current! And — that 211 person in Framingham may tell someone in Truro that there is help available in Falmouth — which is not at all helpful! Our goal is to make the 211 resources as relevant and helpful as possible for folks who live on the Cape and Islands by keeping it up-to-date, helping 211 staffers in Framingham understand the unique geographic and transportation challenges that our callers may face, and by developing decision-trees for the 211 call operators to use specific to our region.
The Cape and Islands United Way is seeking a handy person for occasional help in our office. Examples of tasks might be: installing window blinds, assembling shelves, painting, patching drywall, installing bulletin boards, etc.
While we don’t have a huge load of these tasks, we do have occasional need for a helping hand and would like to direct our resources to helping the community and not to window blind installation (and the CEO has turned out to be not so good at installing blinds, although she certainly tried!).
If you’re handy and could spare an occasional hour here or there, we would be thrilled to hear from you. Our office is conveniently located on Falmouth Road/Route 28 in Centerville — we are on the second floor, stairs required.
